Level 1 Beginner dive lessons are for individuals who have never taken a dive lesson before. Participants will work with a certified instructor to learn proper diving techniques that will help build strength, flexibility, and confidence. Participants will learn the basics of formal diving including all of the following: front and back straight jumps, tucks and pikes and have the opportunity to perform dives off the 1 meter board, as well as the 3 meter board as deemed appropriate. All participants will have the opportunity to work towards the Y Not Dive Team, if desired, and will have the option to dive in 2 meets at the YMCA throughout the year. No prior diving experience is necessary but all participants must be able to swim 25 yards.
Participants will be assessed throughout the series of lessons for correct body form, and positioning. A list of progressions must be met in order to move on to Level 2. Dive Lessons will meet twice/week for a month for a total of 8-45 minute lessons.
