Older players need greater challenges. The 5th-7th grade leagues play with modified high school rules, and end the season with a league-wide tournament. This is competitive basketball with heart, where what kind of teammate you are is as important as what kind of player you are.

Rules & Policies
Team Formation: For all players who register before early registration ends, teams are made based on the criteria listed in priority order:
1. Coach/Teammate Request
4. Coach Availability (If the guardian volunteers to coach)
5. Date of Registration
Players who register before the end of early registration will be placed on their current school team unless there are too few registered players. In this case, players from other under enrolled schools will be combined in a geographically sensitive way. Students who register AFTER the early registration date will be placed based on available space. Each team will have 7-10 players on their roster.
The YMCA is responsible for forming all teams, but the designated coach is required to call all players on his/her team to relay practice time and confirm participation. Contact must be made prior to first practice. In general, the YMCA assigns one coach per team. In some extreme circumstances, the YMCA has allowed a head coach to oversee a larger team of up to 16 players and allowed the large team to play as two teams.
Playing Time: All players are guaranteed equal playing time.
If a player should miss consecutive practices or demonstrate poor behavior outside the YMCA values and shows no evident “commitment” to the team, the coach must contact the YMCA to discuss reduced playing time. Any reduced playing time must be approved by YMCA and reasoning discussed with parent/guardian.
Teams practice one night a week for 1 – 1.5 hours depending on gym availability.
Practice schedule is TBD. All schedules are developed and communicated by our volunteer coaches to the start of the season.
Games: All teams play one game per week, on Saturday, for six weeks.
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade: The score is not kept.
3rd-7th Grade games: Score is kept.
All referees are volunteers from teams and the local community.
Coaching & Volunteering
Volunteer today! Each and every YMCA Youth Sports team is coached by great volunteers. When you volunteer to coach a children’s sports team, the YMCA will provide you the support, tools, and training to be successful. You have the opportunity to ensure that each child has a positive experience! As always, the YMCA asks all participants and families to be supportive and respectful of volunteer coaches and kids on the team.
A YMCA coach’s role is to provide a positive practice and game environment, communicate effectively with others and role model our character values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY.
Volunteer Coaches must pass background check and be approved by YMCA
