Splash
Teaching kids and families to be safer in and around the water!
The YMCA Splash program is an introduction and orientation to swimming and water safety skills, designed primarily for grade school children. This fun, five day program is meant to teach water safety, swimming skills, rescue skills, and character development at a very low cost. Classes are 45 minutes long with 15 minutes learning about water safety and 30 minutes in the pool working on swimming skills.
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among youth under the age of 18. And Idaho is one of the worst states in terms of drowning rates. Learn how we’re making a difference in the Treasure Valley.
Idaho is one of the worst states in the nation in terms of rates of drowning. Approximately 60% of Hispanics and 70% of African Americans do not know how to swim, and minorities drown at three time the rate of the rest of the population.
Armed with this knowledge, your Y has teamed up with the Jeker Foundation, United States Swimming, Y USA Swimming and Diving Committee, local Rotary Clubs and some individual donors to change this situation across the Treasure Valley.
