LIVESTRONG at the YMCA: A Cancer Survivor Exercise Program
The Downtown YMCA was selected as one of ten YMCAs in the country to participate in a project with the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA to better understand the needs, wants, and interests of cancer survivors. It is our goal to support cancer survivor’s pursuit of health and wellbeing by creating and implementing programs that fit their unique needs.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a eight week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. The goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, flexibility, endurance, and improve functional ability.
Cancer Fitness Fundamentals is a one on one program. With the help of a Cancer Trainer Specialist, participants will be given the tools and guidance to help them begin or continue their journey of fitness. These twelve sessions allows this program to be tailored to fit the specific type of cancer and / or needs.
