168 days
. This is the ideal preparation time needed to mold ones body into the endurance machine of an event with fortitude. This allows your body enough time to adapt, grow, and become stronger without rushing or skipping any details. Yes, it is helpful to have months, years, and even decades of accumulated stamina (base training) but if you are motivated and dedicated, and most importantly train smart with a well balanced lifestyle, 168 days can morph your body into an endurance monster.

Many of you are conjuring up images of suffering, sweating, gritting your teeth hurt. Training for a triathlon and definitely an Ironman event means enduring months of fatigue and hardship. Right? WRONG. Training should be a welcomed and enjoyable experience. Five to six days out of the week you should feel energized and excited about your training. If you find yourself fatigued, irritable, or lacking motivation more than 3 days a week, you are not optimizing your training.

If you are seeking an optimal race performance then training smart is a balance between artful creativity and science. There is no one program that will work for everyone. There is one program that will be right for you as an individual though. Working with a coach to discover the program that works for you is one of the best ways to have a break through race.
