I got my start in the Y as a Swim Coach. It was a job I loved, as the kids I worked with never ceased to inspire me. I recently attended the annual Y Swim Team Banquet and was again so proud of the caliber of the young people involved. The highest swim team award given to a graduating Senior is the Jane Nelson Award. It is based on leadership, academics, citizenship, volunteerism, role modeling, and character. I have been privileged to have known all of the recipients of this award. They are all amazing individuals, and this year’s winner, Maeve McCormick, is no different. She was also recently recognized with the United Dairymen of Idaho’s Distinguished Student Award. I honestly do not know how this Stanford-bound Senior from Boise High School does all that she does, and what’s even more impressive is how she does it all with absolute humility and a genuine love for service to others. You may also remember hearing about Maeve’s teammate Jake Klassen, another amazing young person. His story is simply amazing. Rematch his KTVB story here »
