FROM OUR PARTNER IN HEALTH, SAINT ALPHONSUS: May is the month to raise awareness for Arthritis, Stroke, and Senior Health! STARS can help!
In The NewsMay 11, 2017
May is National Arthritis Awareness Month. It aims to raise awareness and reduce the impact of arthritis, which strikes one in every five adults and 300,000 children according to the Arthritis Foundation. It is the leading cause of disability in the US. At Saint Alphonsus Rehabilitation Services (STARS), our caring therapists can help you manage your arthritis or related diagnosis including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Lupus.
Our therapists will develop an individualized treatment plan that focuses on restoring mobility, function, and strength, as well as decreasing pain, swelling, and stiffness. They will also explain how you can modify certain daily activities so that they are less stressful on your joints. Our goal is your goal – to decrease your pain and help improve your quality of life. Please visit our Arthritis Management page at www.starspt.org for more information on arthritis.
May is also American Stroke Month. According to the Stroke Association, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the US and a major cause of serious, long-term disability. American Stroke Month aims to heighten the public’s awareness of stroke warning signs and risk factors. The Stroke Program at STARS offers a highly-skilled team of rehabilitation specialists with years of experience to assist patients in recovering from a stroke. Our team is committed to the patient’s well-being and will work to restore physical and cognitive abilities. Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is recognized by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and is the only hospital in Idaho to obtain this prestigious clinical distinction. Please visit our Stroke Rehabilitation page at www.starspt.org for more information on strokes.
National Senior Health and Fitness day is May 31st. Exercise is an important part of a good health at every age; however, many older adults don’t get the recommended amounts of physical activity. Staying active can boost vitality, help maintain strength and flexibility, improve mental function, reduce your risk for health problems, and even help relieve chronic pain. Be sure to talk to your health care provider before beginning an exercise program.
We care about your health and wellness and please know that if there are any “bumps” along the way, we are here for your therapy needs. Please call us at 367-STAR (7827) or visit our website at www.starspt.org.
