Boise, Idaho, December 22, 2022 – The Treasure Valley Family YMCA is in the midst of fundraising for a new downtown Boise YMCA to replace and improve offerings from the current facility. Three Idaho companies and organizations have stepped forward during the holiday season to support this future community resource.

IDAHO POWER

Idaho Power has demonstrated strong connection to the communities where their employees live and work for more than 100 years. The company contributes time, talent, and financial support to enrich the lives of their neighbors. They have come forward with a donation for the future Y because of their belief in the Y’s mission and tenure in the city of Boise.

“The Treasure Valley YMCA’s stated mission is to ‘strengthen the foundations of community by developing successful youth, engaging people in healthy living, and instilling a commitment to social responsibility,’” said Idaho Power CFO Brian Buckham. “Like Idaho Power, it’s a service-driven organization with a strong commitment to its customers, and it makes a difference in our communities. We have been proud to support multiple YMCAs in our service area, and this contribution will help to further the YMCA’s important mission.”

Boise Cascade®

Boise Cascade® is a purpose-driven organization. The leading manufacturer and distributor of building materials prides itself on bringing people, products and services together to build strong homes, businesses and communities that stand the test of time. They chose to support the Y because of the benefit the association provides to their employees and the greater area through healthy living opportunities, youth development and promotion of social responsibility.

“Our community is only as strong as our families, individuals, and kids,” said Nate Jorgensen, CEO of Boise Cascade. “The Treasure Valley YMCA provides a quality, safe, and inclusive space for everyone to positively impact their health, mind, and spirit. We’re honored to support this fundraising campaign to modernize the facilities and expand the vital services offered to those who live and work downtown.”

Together Treasure Valley

Together Treasure Valley is a collaboration of area businesses that are committed to investing in the community to make it an even better place to live, work and play. Recently, the group allocated a gift from their annual donation to the future Downtown Boise YMCA Kid Zone Welcome Center.

“Since Together Treasure Valley’s inception in 2016, our group has committed more than one million dollars to projects that will have a lasting, meaningful impact on the Valley,” said Binna Jensen, Marketing Manager for the Idaho Statesman and manager of Together Treasure Valley. “When we saw the project proposal from the Y, our committee agreed that it was an excellent example of a community project that aligns with our mission. The lasting, positive effects on individuals and families who use the Kid Zone to enhance the lives of themselves and their families will last for generations to come.”

The Future Downtown Boise YMCA

The Treasure Valley Family YMCA has set a goal of raising $60 million to build the new Downtown Boise YMCA. Because of the organization’s commitment to the community, they have structured a plan where there will be no disruption of service to Y members or to the essential resources that they provide.

The Y continues to collaborate with architectural and development partners to map out a Downtown Boise Y that will meet the needs of a growing and changing community. And with generous community donations like those from Idaho Power, Boise Cascade and Together Treasure Valley, the association plans to introduce several new facility amenities. These include:

  • Increased youth programming and capacity for participants
  • Inter-generational space to create shared experiences through common interests
  • A Nonprofit Hub for community partners
  • Modern spaces for youth, including e-sports, maker spaces, STEAM programming areas
  • An indoor track
  • State-of-the-art health and wellbeing spaces for both physical and mental wellness
  • A community kitchen with accessible tools for community members to learn life skills
  • Community gathering and meeting spaces

Earlier this year, the Y received generous contributions from NORCO, the J.R. Simplot Company, and Blue Cross of Idaho. With these recent gifts, they have reached a milestone of $16 million in fundraising for this critical project.

“During this season of giving and gratitude, we are humbled to reflect on the tremendous support we’ve received,” said YMCA CEO David Duro. “Community members, individuals and Cause-minded businesses continue to come forward with support for our vision, mission and values. We look forward to putting in the work to ensure we build a Y that will serve this amazing community for years to come.”
