Athletics play an important role in girls’ lives. Besides helping to establish routines for a healthy, active lifestyle, sports help build confidence, leadership skills and the ability to work with a team.
According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, women who participate in school sports are more likely to graduate from college. It also increases their odds of landing leadership positions.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day started in 1987 when President Ronald Reagan declared the first National Women in Sports Day in recognition of the history of women’s athletics.
