Aquatic Center Reopening

The Y will reopen water fitness classes at all aquatic facilities on Monday, June 29, 2020. The following guidelines have been made:

  • To follow federal, state, and local government guidelines as well as CDC, CDH, and other health guidelines regarding COVID-19.
  • To follow Governor Little’s staged re-opening plan.
  • To follow the recommendations of Y-USA in phased aquatics opening.
  • To maintain physical distancing throughout our aquatic centers.
  • And to keep the Y’s promise to only open when it is safe and responsible.

You will see some changes on the pool deck. Some areas or features will remain closed and we ask you to please adhere to all signage.

Y staff will clean high touch surfaces and high traffic areas throughout the day and in between each reservation group.

Open swim – families or individuals 
Reservation only

  • All swimmers, including parent/guardian, must register for open swim time through ymcatvidaho.motionvibe.com.
  • All swimmers 18 and under must take a swim test at the beginning of each visit.
  • A parent/guardian must stay within arms reach of their kids in the kiddie pool.
  • A parent/guardian must stay within arms reach of all red-necklace level swimmers.
  • Household units should physical distance from others.
  • Foot traffic on the pool deck is one direction only. Please follow the directional arrows as you enter and exit the facility.
  • One parent/guardian per family is allowed to wait in the designated physical distancing area if all kids can pass the green or yellow level swim test.
  • Slides, diving boards, and kiddie pool water features will NOT be open.
  • Pool noodles, barbells, or other equipment provided for water exercise classes may NOT be used for open swim.

Water fitness classes
Reservation only

  • To reserve a spot in a water fitness class, please visit ymcatvidaho.motionvibe.com.
  • Reservations open 24 hours prior to class time.
  • All participants under 18 years old must be able to pass the green swim test.
  • All participants under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years of age. This adult must remain on the pool deck in a designated physical distancing area during the session.

Lap swimming
Reservation only, limit one person per lane—no exceptions.

  • To reserve a lane for lap swimming please visit ymcatvidaho.motionvibe.com.
  • Reservations are for a 45 minutes session.
  • Reservations open 24 hours prior to the lane times for either a cold pool (79–80ºF) or a warmer pool (84–85ºF at West Boise and Caldwell, 88–89ºF at Downtown Boise) in each facility.
  • All lap swimmers under 18 years old must be able to pass the green swim test.
  • All lap swimmers under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years of age. This adult must remain on the pool deck in a designated physical distancing area during the session.

Aquatic Facility Guidelines

  • Please arrive with plenty of time to find parking, check-in at the front desk, and get to the pool deck in time for your reservation. The lifeguard desk will check all participants in and assign lanes for a lap swim.
  • Members with reservations for the following hour will be permitted on deck 5 minutes prior to the start of the reservation. Please wait in the locker room until this time.
  • Only swim equipment, a water bottle, and a towel are allowed on deck. Please leave all other belongings in a locker. We recommend putting your towel in a waterproof bag, as all belongings need to stay in a designated space by your lane.
  • Please shower prior to leaving the locker rooms and getting in the pool. There is a shower on each pool deck available if you forget but we prefer that you use the showers in the locker rooms.
  • Please wear your mask or face covering while you check in and walk to you reach your assigned lane or class location.
  • When arriving on the pool deck, please check-in at the lifeguard desk to receive your lane assignment.
  • Lanes will alternate ends of the pool for starting, resting, and stopping your workout.
  • Those with ADA needs or who need assistance will be assigned lanes first.
  • Foot traffic on the pool deck is one direction only. Please follow the directional arrows as you enter and exit the facility.
  • No spectators, parents, or coaches are allowed on the pool deck unless accompanying a swimmer under the age of 10 and waiting in the designated physical distancing area. One parent/caretaker per swimmer.
  • Equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, barbells, and belts will be available for use. Please return equipment into the “used” bin at the end of your workout.
  • Reservations and classes will start at the :15 minute mark of each hour. Please exit the pool and deck promptly when the lifeguards blow the long whistle at the top of each hour so that the next group can access the pool deck in a timely manner.
  • The use of the starting blocks is not permitted at this time.
  • The hot tub is closed.
  • All swimmers under the age of 18 must pass a swim test for a green ribbon.
