Legacy Campaign for the Downtown Boise YMCA

The Treasure Valley Family YMCA has been the heart of the downtown Boise community since our founding in 1891. Located on the seam of the residential North End, the Downtown business core, adjacent to Boise High School, and near the Idaho State Capitol, we serve one of the most diverse communities in the state

Due to immense population growth, the YMCA’s services have outgrown our current 54-year-old facility and the building lacks the capacity to continue meeting vital community needs. In response to these identified needs, we are embarking upon a legacy project — the construction of the new CapEd Downtown Boise YMCA facility — which will be the anchor of a mixed-use four block catalytic revitalization project.

Our collaborative vision consists of constructing a barrier-free YMCA for people of all ages and abilities and will provide a warm welcome that is reflective of Boise today and in the future. By co-locating and co-producing services, the YMCA, alongside our partners in healthcare, education, finance, the non-profit and government sectors, will provide comprehensive solutions for community challenges and unprecedented space for personal growth, access, and opportunity.

This is an exciting time in the story of the CapEd Downtown Boise YMCA and we look forward to sharing our progress with the community. Please keep reading for the answers to frequently asked questions and contact us if you need any additional information or would like to get involved.

The demolition process on the site of the new Y has just begun! This work is in preparation for a groundbreaking of the new Y tentatively scheduled for June of 2024.

The construction of the new Y is expected to take 18-24 months and we plan to open in late 2025 or early 2026.

The CapEd Downtown Boise Y, in addition to the other redevelopment happening in the area, will positively transform our area, bringing activity and additional services such as a financial and healthcare partner.

The current parking lots will remain usable for Y members until late spring 2024 at which time the Y will share the options for parking or alternative transportation options to the Downtown Y.

It is anticipated that there will be road closures but when and for how long are not known at this time.  We will continue to update this space and communicate any news via email newsletters and social media as we know more.

Your membership and ability to use our current Downtown Y facility will not be disrupted during the construction process. Our current Downtown Y will remain open and operational until the new facility is complete.

Your YMCA membership also allows you to use any of the Treasure Valley facilities. Find our other locations here

The new Y will act as a service hub in the center of a larger redevelopment of downtown Boise. This once-in-a-lifetime project takes the entire community to bring to life. To give a gift today, click here. To learn more ways to be involved, schedule a vision tour by emailing

The Y operates under a model where new capital projects are fully funded through donations and partner sources. This means that the project costs will not influence our membership pricing model. As with any other Treasure Valley Family Y program or facility, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

Through the expansion of space and programming, the Y anticipates a need for additional staff in several areas of operation. One area of significant expansion is early education and childcare. Adjacent to the Y, we will own and operate a 134-seat childcare center to provide full-time infant, toddler, and preschool care

Yes! The CapEd Downtown Y will operate a 134-seat full-time early learning center adjacent to the new building. This center will be the newest center of 33 childcare sites across the Treasure Valley. For more information on our child development programs, visit

The Intergen, at the heart of the new Y, will offer coffee throughout the morning, and will be a space for relationship building for all members.

With additional space, we do anticipate providing additional classes to serve our members.
