Support is the common thread connecting all the different stories of impact that unfold at the Y. Whether it’s the gift of time, talent, or treasure, we are grateful for all support we get from our community. Here are some ways you can support the Y’s cause:
“At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”
– David Duro, CEO, Treasure Valley Family YMCA
When you volunteer at the Y, you provide leadership and talent vital to empowering people and communities to learn, grow and thrive.
Volunteers of the Y:
- Coach our sports teams and teach many of our classes
- Motivate and support youth in building the character strengths, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and smart life choices
- Extend a hand to help adults who want to do more, be more or live healthier
- Participate in opportunities to give back and support neighbors
- Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of the community
The Y brings about meaningful change. We work to make sure every child, family, and adult has what they need to achieve their best. Each member’s experience here is unique and we would like to hear yours. Your story is an inspiration to others that demonstrates what the Y can really do for individuals, families, and communities.
Did you learn to swim at the Y? Maybe you recently moved here and made new friends through a Y Fitness Class. Were you able to have your child experience a great Summer Camp because of our financial assistance program? Or perhaps you reached your goal weight after making a resolution to train at the Y.
Everyone has a story and it is worth sharing. You may inspire someone to follow the same path to better health and well-being.

Strengthening Community Is Our Cause
We strengthen the foundation of community by developing successful youth, engaging people in healthy living and instilling a commitment to social responsibility.
“Over ten years ago, I found myself a single mom with 2 young sons. I felt powerless and alone. That’s when I found my local YMCA.
Through Financial Assistance, I was able to join the Y and participate in group exercise classes while my sons were with competent, caring Y staff members in the Kid Zone. I developed connections and friendships with the group workout teachers and other Y members.
My sons grew up at the Y! They attended fantastic, character building day camps and sports leagues. They found positive male role models in their volunteer soccer and basketball league coaches. As for me, I lost weight and rebuilt my self-confidence! Thank you, YMCA! I love the Y!”
– Amanda Campbell, Y Member
In 2017, Debbie was spending 5 of 7 days in bed due to chronic pain. Through a chance conversation with Windie, Lifeguard and Safety Coordinator at the West Boise YMCA, Debbie learned that the West Y has warm water pools that would be comforting for her pain. She also learned that she was eligible for the Financial Assistance program to help her Family become Y members.
Over a year later, Debbie’s pain is under control, better than it has been in years. Debbie’s children have a safe place to have fun and make friends while she participates in adapted water exercise classes with Laurie, a treasured YMCA Aquatics Instructor. “I take the most amazing class with the most welcoming community. Drop by and join us!”
