“My son Rowan is going into second grade next year and he’s brilliant and hilarious and he can’t really sit still. After a rough summer last year at home with his older brothers, we wanted to enroll him in a summer program. We had three things that were important to us – physical activity, healthy snack options, and minimizing summer learning loss.
We did some research and decided on the Eagle Y Kids summer child care program. Rowan was really scared the first day, but when we walked in, we were greeted immediately and shown around. I asked about breakfast and would you believe it, they were having pancakes and blueberries for breakfast – Rowan’s favorite!!! “Mom!! They have Legos!!!!”. He joined another child on the floor with the Legos and barely even noticed me as I kissed him on the top of his head and left.
He has never been super excited about school, but now he wakes up every day excited for summer at Eagle Y Kids. When I pick him up, he’s always excited to tell me about the new friend he made, new song they learned, or a new game he played. He almost ALWAYS has rosy cheeks, and my big mama heart just swells. He’s having fun, playing hard, and he’s tired at the end of the day. That’s exactly what we wanted for him!”
“At the Y, strengthening community is our purpose. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”
– David Duro, CEO, Treasure Valley Family YMCA
Support is the common thread connecting all the different stories of impact that unfold at the Y. Whether it’s the gift of time, talent, or treasure, we are grateful for all support we get from our community. Here are some ways you can support the Y’s cause:
When you volunteer at the Y, you provide leadership and talent vital to empowering people and communities to learn, grow and thrive.
Volunteers of the Y:
- Coach our sports teams and teach many of our classes
- Motivate and support youth in building the character strengths, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and smart life choices
- Extend a hand to help adults who want to do more, be more or live healthier
- Participate in opportunities to give back and support neighbors
- Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of the community
The Y brings about meaningful change. We work to make sure every child, family, and adult has what they need to achieve their best. Each member’s experience here is unique, and we would like to hear yours. Your story is an inspiration to others that demonstrates what the Y can really do for individuals, families, and communities.
Did you learn to swim at the Y? Maybe you recently moved here and made new friends through a Y Fitness Class. Were you able to have your child experience a great Summer Camp because of our financial assistance program? Or perhaps you reached your goal weight after making a resolution to train at the Y.
Everyone has a story, and it is worth sharing. You may inspire someone to follow the same path to better health and well-being.
