Overview

The TVAAU competitive basketball league offers players the opportunity to compete all while learning the values of sportsmanship, effort, respect, and teamwork with a focus on maintaining healthy lifestyles and relationships. Treasure Valley AAU is committed to providing players with a positive playing experience. Through YMCA leadership, volunteer coaches as positive role models, and parents/families providing positive and continuous support Treasure Valley AAU Basketball is a platform for players to improve their game within a competitive environment and foster a lifelong pursuit of health.

Team Formation

  • This year we will be REQUIRING tryouts.
  • We are planning on having two main tryouts, one for kids who are in West Ada School District and one for kids in the Boise School District.
  • There will additionally be a backup tryout date and location.
  • In an effort to make the teams as equal as we can, there will no longer be a player or coach request option, since we are requiring tryouts.
  • We will then place kids on Varsity and JV teams according to their school district they are currently in. If you are unable to make your school districts time, please communicate to us and you will be able to attend the other tryouts. If you are unable to make any of the tryout times, you will be placed on a JV team and WON’T be guaranteed a place on a team in your school district.
  • TVAAU divisions are formed based on the player’s grade they are in during the current school year.
  • Teams are limited to 8 minimum and 10 maximum players.

Try outs

  • West Ada School District Tryout Date: Friday, September 6th from 5:30pm-8:45pm
  • Boise School District Tryout Date: Saturday, September 7th from 3:00pm-6:00pm
  • Makeup Tryout Date: Tuesday, September 10th from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Games

  • All teams play a total of 10 games in the West Ada School District.
  • Game schedules will be published by the end of the first week of practice
  • We do our best to not have teams play back to back. While this may happen, we try to limit the amount of times for each team.

Practice Information

  • YMCA Youth Sports Leadership will work with schools to solidify practice locations, days and times. The volunteer coach of your player’s team will choose from what practice options are available. Practices will be located at a school or Y facility that is nearest where they team is located. In divisions that are smaller, teams may be made from multiple schools, so practices may be a little further from where you are located.
  •  Teams practice for 1.5 hours, twice a week for a total of 3 hours.

The YMCA does NOT provide coaches for this program. All coaches are volunteers. Coaches are provided resources and training as needed and we are happy to support all coaches in any way possible. In this case we ask that parents of those teams work to identify a coach for the team.

Coaching & Volunteering

All coaches are unpaid volunteers who give their time to improve the lives of players and help develop skills in basketball and the art of teamwork and effort. Coaches are subject to a background check and are selected based on past coaching history and experience working with youth. No contact information is released until a background check is complete. Safety is a commitment we make to youth.
