We will offer a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon & Full Marathon, and a Marathon Challenge! In-person and Virtual options available. All courses are flat and fast for this fun full, half, 10K & 5K run on the Boise Greenbelt. We are excited to be back in person. More details to come!

2021 YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon Entry Requirements 

As we closely monitor the status of the COVID-19 Delta variant and prepare for the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Marathon, we are proceeding with your safety as our top priority. With this in mind, we are announcing new health & safety entry requirements for all participants.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of race day is required to attend in person for the YMCA Famous Idaho Potato on Sep 18. Please read below for more details, and what this means for race day.

FIP Packet Pick Up & Entry Procedures

  1. Prior to arrival at packet pickup and/or race areas, please read the YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon Health Pledge (below), and ensure that you can comply.
  2. We require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination from all race participants OR a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of race day. You may bring your vaccination card, a photo or digital copy.  Volunteers will match your ID to your proof of vaccination.*
  3. Once you receive your “COVID-19 All Clear”, you may proceed to pick up your bib number and race swag! Pick up your race bib and packet – your race bib is your ticket into the starting and finish line areas.
  4. You must wear your race bib to be allowed into the start and finish areas. Spectators will not be allowed into these areas.

*We won’t collect, save or keep any of your data. It’s simply used to verify proof and allow you access into the race area.

YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon Health Pledge
We ask that you DO NOT ATTEND the race if any of the following is true for you or anyone in your party:

  • Within 14 days prior to attending the race you have tested positive or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Within 48 hours prior to attending the race, you have experienced signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • Within 14 days prior to attending the race you have traveled to any international territory identified by federal or applicable state or local governments as being subject to travel or quarantine advisories due to COVID-19.

FAQ’s for YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon COVID-19 Entry Requirements? 

Start Times & Locations:
Full and Half Marathon – 7am at Lucky Peak State Park/Sandy Point
5K/10K – 10am at Albertsons Headquarters
Waves may be implemented to reduce the number of runners in the starting area. 

Packet Pick Up Option: All full and half marathons must pick up race packets before going to the start line NO EXCEPTIONS.
Packet pick up will be held at Albertsons Headquarters (250 E Parkcenter Blvd, Boise). Mask are strongly recommended all inside the event area. Virtual Participants will not be able to pick up packets on Sat, Sept 18th.

  • Thu, Sept 16 from 4-7pm for In person and Virtual Participants
  • Fri, Sept 17 from 3-7pm for In person and Virtual Participants
  • Sat, Sept 18 from 5-6:30am for Full and Half In Person Marathoners only
  • Sat, Sept 18 from 8-10am for 10K & 5K In Person runners only  (no virtual participant packet pick up on race day)

Parking:
Parking is available at Albertsons Headquarters in both the east and west lot of the building. The west will be closed before the start of the 5K & 10K and will have limit access as finisher start to enter the area. We recommend that full and half marathoners park in the west lot and 5K & 10K runners park in the east lot. There is NO parking on the street or the BSU Yanke lot.                           

“Potato” Shuttle Pick Up Times
5:00am-6:30am (Buses do fill up so  so don’t wait for the last bus)
Catch the shuttle at Albertsons Headquarters at 250 E Parkcenter Blvd. Boise.
You must have a Bib Number to ride the bus to the starting line.
Park near the finish line and we’ll take you to the start of the race! Buses will pick-up at the Finish line, Albertsons HQ on Parkcenter Blvd.  Parking is limited at the starting line for the full and half marathon. Be aware the road into the full and half Marathon closes starting 6:45am to all traffic other an buses. Masks will be required when in line and on buses for the this event. Also remember no dogs on the buses and some strollers do not fit on the buses. Please be respectful of our bus drivers and other participants.  *No Transportation will be available back to the start area at Lucky Peak.

You will receive your bib number, packet, race shirt and have the opportunity to look at course maps. We strongly encourage participants, volunteers and staff to wear masks when entering the packet pick up area. Try and limit the number of people that you bring to packet pick up.

Team Participants Get a group together from your office, school, church, family, or just a group of friends! Forming a team is a great way to take a step toward healthy living, and helps to build a network of people to encourage you in your fitness goals.

 

 

Course Maps & Information

Course Maps: Remember that the full and half marathon are a point to point race, finishing in the same location of the the 5K/10K race. The 5K/10K races start and finish in the same location, Albertson’s Headquarters.
Safety When On Course:
When running and walking on the course, please remain alert, do not follow other runners as there are 4 courses, know where you turn for your distance and KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT FOR PASSING! No more than two abreast on the Greenbelt portion of the race. The Greenbelt is open to the public during the race. Cross roadways only where indicated by chalk-marks, cones, or race official’s instructions. All major intersections will be monitored.

Water Stations will be approximately every 2 miles up until mile 20, then the stations will be approximately 1.5 apart. All stations will have water. Stations on the full and half will have electrolyte drinks (Gatorade is our official hydration sponsors).  Restrooms are located at the start and finish areas, near mile 2.5, 6, 8 10 14, 17, 19.5 21 & 23.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Y. This September, we have opportunities for you to volunteer and help us make the YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon the best family-friendly event in the Treasure Valley. Over 2,000 participants are a part of the run, and we need volunteers to help us make it possible! Learn how you can volunteer below.

Please note: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of race day is required to volunteer in person for the YMCA Famous Idaho Potato on Sep 18 or the packet pick-up days. Read more here under “details”.

Packet Pick Up Offered 2 Days

Packet Pick Up is located at Albertson’s Headquarters

Thursday, Sep 16, 3:30-7:30pm
Friday, Sep 17, 2:30-7:30pm

Be the first to wish the runners good luck! Volunteers will hand out race packets, SWAG, and answer questions about the event. Come for a shift of two hours, or stay the whole time!

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Help with late registrations
  • Hand out t-shirts
  • Assign bib numbers to participants
  • Learn the courses and answer questions about race maps and instructions

Famous Idaho Potato Race Day!

Saturday, Sep 18, 2021 
Race Day 

We are looking for volunteers for all areas of the event: from the starting line to the finish line and everything in between. Check the list of responsibilities below and let us know your area of interest when you sign up. Groups are welcome, and some positions are limited! Shifts are available from 7am-4pm.


Volunteer Responsibilities: 

  • Race Day Packet Pick Up, 5:15am
  • Race Day Packet Up, 8am
  • Lead cyclist for all distances
  • Athlete bag check area
  • Race Swag  Tent
  • Set up start and finish line areas
  • Course monitors (get the best view of the race!)
  • Hand out medals
  • Water station at the finish line
  • Break-down and clean-up crew
  • Clean Team – trash & recycle

Masks
Face coverings will be required – regardless of vaccination status – in certain areas of the Famous Idaho Potato footprint, including buses, start and finish line areas, and event tents. Please bring a face covering and have one with you at all times. All staff, volunteers, and vendors will be required to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.

COVID-19 WARNING
COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and people with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. There is an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place or place where people are present and there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending the festival (or any part of it) will not be exposed to COVID-19.

We are taking enhanced health and safety measures for you, other participants, volunteers, and YMCA staff. You must follow all posted instructions while attending YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon and Fun Runs (or any part of the event).

By attending the YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon and Fun Runs, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

COVID 19-Refund Policy

If you are not able to follow the Entry requirements for the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon you are welcome to switch to virtual or receive a full refund for your registration fee. Requests for refunds must be made before 09/18/2021.

Here’s how to submit results:  Use the tutorial for more information.  

Navigate to the Famous Potato Race Page> and select the More Tab> then select Results>.  You will see a Submit Virtual Results button, click that then find your registration. Lastly, when you have your name pulled up click Submit Virtual Results> it will let you log your time for your distance. Use the tutorial for more information.
